From the beginning this set out to be a tough conditions due to the weather. The first day of the challenge the temperature rose to 78º and the deer were not moving. There were some nice bucks that were captured by the Teams but no videoed hunts were submitted for scoring.
On Tuesday the weather took a turn for the worst– In the eight year history of the Campbell Outdoor Challenge we have never had to cancel a morning hunt due to weather. A 2,000 mile-wide storm with category 3 hurricane winds hit the midwest on Tuesday, October 26, sparking Tornado and T-storm watches all over the area. Due to the storm, the teams were allowed to see their secondary area at 9am instead of 12 noon. From this point on the teams are now allowed to submit a videoed Buck hunt and/or Doe hunt for scoring.
The teams should have seen a lot of actions Wed. morning due to the temperature drop to 38º. As of now, no successful hunts have been submitted for scoring. I guess thats why they call this a challenge!
Update Oct. 28, 2010
Team Up North Journal spent last night and this morning tracking a Buck that they shot and the Buck and video in question is in the process of being scored.
This morning Team North Carolina submitted the first successfully videoed Doe hunt of this Challenge but was unable to capture the bonus points for second camera angle viewpoint.
Congratulations to the successful teams so far.
There is one full day left of hunting for the teams and with only two successful videoed hunts submitted for scoring........ the second camera angle points are now more important than ever. If no other footage of a successful hunt is submitted, it will come down to the second camera angle footage to determine 3rd place.
With the temperatures dropping, the deer should be in motion. Can't wait to see what tonight will bring!
Update October 29:
With only two teams successfully filming a hunt, third place, at least, was up for grabs from the remaining determined teams.
Team Way Out Here Outdoors had some amazing footage of a buck hunt but was unable to track it by 2pm CT.
Team Up North Journal successfully submitted the pre-harvest, harvest, and post harvest of a Doe Hunt that clinched them in First Place.
With Team North Carolina submitted successful footage of a Doe Hunt they clinched 2nd place.
With no other teams submitting footage of a successful pre-harvest, harvest, and post harvest footage, Third Place came down to who submitted the best 2nd-angle shot. The second-angle shots were taken by the
Go Pro Helemet Hero HD video camera and the teams were allowed to submit one clip. It came down to Team Heartache, Team Burgh and Team Texas Archery. Texas Archery submitted the best second-angle shot and took 3rd Place. Team Burgh and Team Heartache both tied for 4th and 5th place!
Here are the final standings:
We had such a great group of people this year. Thank you for all of those who participated! We hope to see you next year!
