So today is the launch of Stage two of the Campbell Cameras Pro Circuit Hunting and Filming Challenge. I can’t tell you where Team Solo Hunters is at in the competition after the Turkey Challenge in Tel City Indiana but we are sitting pretty good in the overall. This Mule Deer Challenge should be my bread and butter but from what I have heard about the Table Mountain Outfitters, the hunting should be pretty hot and so I am expecting many of the teams to kill out on this trip. This video blog series will include the traveling, hunting, and filming of the entire hunt as well as some behind the scenes info on the filming of the Campbell Cameras Pro Circuit Challenge. Oh, I forgot to mention that we had several other Hunting Shows in camp with us this week including Heartland Bowhunter, Red Arrow, Buck Commander, Non Stop Hunting, Endless Season, Camo Life and Jason Miller of Raven 6 productions. Dang what a line up! I will also be including little tidbits of the camera setups and techniques I used throughout the week as well as some of the tips I picked up from the other producers. This will be a hecka crazy couple of weeks that you shouldn’t want to miss. So don’t. Before we can get to the hunting we have to take care of the Production Element Requirements for this challenge. We have to film, area reference shots, time lapse, creative lighting and creative use of the Outdoor Edge Knives. Todays task is the Area Reference shots so here we go.

So my new favorite toy of the trip was most definitely the GoPro HD. I had two of these running almost non-stop all week. I learned from my Nevada Mule Deer hunt that this little camera can pack a huge punch and turn out some incredible Solo Style scenes with little or no effort. We used them for second camera angles, time lapse cameras and for what I call my Solo Random Cam when mounted to my bow or head. Because we had to have a hunter and cameraman team on this hunt we also had Dustin wearing the GoPro on his head for an additional perspective of the relationship between the hunter and cameraman. Cool Stuff.

Here are the makings of my little traveling production studio away from home. We had to log footage and submit it for scoring each night. This made for some late nights and with the early mornings you can imagine how little sleep we actually got on this trip. It was nice to share a room with Nick White and Matt White of Heartland Bowhunters and we were able to share ideas and learn from each others unique production style and equipment. These boys really know what they are doing with a camera.

So this first day was spent shooting video, bows and the bull. You know your perspective of TV personalities is always different than they really are in real life. These guys are no different than you and I. They, like me have worked hard and pushed for a dream to become reality and somewhere along the way have met the right people and companies that were willing enough to back us along our journeys. All in all a good bunch of dudes that were a blast to hang out with in camp.

Stay tuned for tomorrow cause the hunting begins bright and early at 5 am and we are going to be going after it Spot and Stalk on the ground. This country is vast and so we will be covering many miles in the truck to try and find the buck we want to go after. Lets get after it!
