Mill Creek Outdoor Productions takes a good lead in the 2008 Campbell Outdoor Challenge professional video circuit
Twelve
full circuit cameraman teams, representing eleven states, matched their
skills in filming hunts in the Cordura Wild Turkey Challenge as part of
the 2008 Campbell Outdoor Challenge televised circuit. The event took
place in the beautiful rolling hills of Perry County Indiana near the
Ohio river April 22 – April 25. Winning the Challenge was Team Mill
Creek Outdoor Productions of Terry & Julie Fitzgerald, Rob Derrick, Nevan Leu and Lorrie Hamaker of CA and
taking second place was Kluckys Outdoor Adventures of John Klucky and
Tom Bibeau of NH. This event was the first event in a four event series
making up the 2008 Campbell Outdoor Challenge Video circuit.
Teams
competed in this four day event by submitting video footage of wild
turkey hunts. The video was scored based upon a copyrighted scoring
system from the Campbell Outdoor Challenge where teams receive points
based on required increments of video footage. Placing third in the
challenge was Team Farm Credit Services of Philip Seng and Mark Helmer
of IN. All team members were filming hunts for Eastern wild turkeys in
the rolling hills of Perry County Indiana.
Filming
hunts for the wary eastern gobbler is definitely a challenge “After
passing on a few smaller birds the first day we knew we were taking a
risk.” stated Spencer Brown of Team Rascal. “With the high
concentration of mature gobblers in the area we were optimistic,” He
continued, “but weather conditions and having such a short time frame caused us to re-think our day 1 decision.” He concluded.
The
event was made possible in part with the help of the Perry County
Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Tell City Mayors Office, Tony
Thomas of Thomas Glass, Robert Skinner of Hunt Club Services, and many
other local area businesses. Local area land owners also helped make
this event possible by providing good properties for the teams to film
hunts on. “The competition was intense!” stated Robert Skinner of Hunt
Club Services. “With this being the first event in a 4 event videoing
circuit worth over $100,000 in cash and prizes, teams wanted to get the
jump on the year here.” He concluded
The
Challenge was hosted by Hunt Club Services near the banks of the Ohio
river. The Campbell Outdoor Challenge airs nationally on the Outdoor
Channel Dish channel 153 and Direct TV channel 604, Maximum Adventure
Network on Direct T.V. channel 608, Pursuit channel on direct TV
channel 611 and various Fox Sports Networks. "Most of the viewers of
wildlife hunting shows and videos have no idea how much of a challenge
(hence the name of the competition) it is to successfully film a hunt
for free-ranging animals in the wild," stated John Campbell, host of
the Campbell Outdoor Challenge TV Show. "This competition highlights
the skills of the cameramen who help bring the 'outdoors' indoors to
millions of viewers."
