History was made June 1-4, 2006 as the first televised bowfising challenge in "The Sport of Filming Hunts" took place at Lake Barkley in Eddyville, KY. Seven teams from numerous states competed in the Apple Creek Outfitters Bowfishing Challenge for the Campbell Outdoor Challenge television show.
Each of the three person professional teams was allowed to submit their best three filmed hunts for scoring. Teams coordinated their efforts with the US Fish and Wildlife Service to harvest invasive species of carp such as Asian, Silver and Bighead. Iowa Team Rivers Edge of Jeremy Leu, Brian Ball and Larry Sims, out videoed the competition and took the first place honors. Second place went to Ohio Team Carp'n of Jake Kerstetter, Jessica Moore and Gary Fogle. Third place was won by Team Oneida of Greg Pyle, IN, Bruce Bauer, KY, and April Martin, IN. Teams battled for prizes provided by Carpbusters.com, Oneida, Loctite and Golden Arrow Archery. This bowfishing event was sponsored in part by Apple Creek Outfitters of Alton, IL and coordinated with extensive support from Jim Breedlove of Lyon County Tourism and Mark Ice of Golden Arrow Archery.
"Unbelievably competitive action," exclaimed Dustan Klaus, co-host of the Campbell Outdoor Challenge. " These teams represented the elite of the bowfishing world. When this show airs you won't want to miss it. We look forward to making an annual bowfishing event part of our Campbell Outdoor Challenge Circuit," he concluded.
The Campbell Outdoor Challenge features team competitions in the sport of filming hunts and is open to anyone wanting to compete, regardless of age or experience level. Teams are awarded points based upon required video footage and the maturity of the animal filmed during the hunt. All outdoor challenge events are for wild, free-ranging game and hunts being filmed are conducted under the rules and regulations of the hosting states.
"Most of the viewers of wildlife hunting shows and videos have no idea how much of a challenge (hence the name of the competition) it is to successfully film a hunt for free-ranging animals in the wild," stated John Campbell, host of the Campbell Outdoor Challenge TV Show. "This competition highlights the skills of the cameramen who help bring the 'outdoors' indoors to millions of viewers."
