2006 Hog/Javelina Challenge

Posted By jeremy at 3/15/2006 12:00:00 AM
The cactus filled brush flats of South Texas was the setting March 2-4, 2006 as eleven cameraman teams, representing nine states, matched their skills in filming hunts in the Scent-King Wild Hog and Javelina Challenge as part of the Campbell Outdoor Challenge circuit. Winning the Challenge was the Pro-Video Hunter team of Mike Mock and Pat Hunt from Georgia and taking second place was the Live Hunt team of TJ Reddick and Casey Craig of Texas. Teams were participating to help raise awareness for the Coalition to Salute America's Heroes, a non-profit organization to salute America's armed services.

Teams competed in this two day event by submitting video footage of wild hog and javelina hunts. The video was scored based upon a copyrighted scoring system from the Campbell Outdoor Challenge where teams receive points based on required increments of video footage. "We finished second in this event in 2005 and had a whole season to reflect on what we needed to do this year to finish first!" exclaimed Hunt. "This Campbell Outdoor Challenge is something that anyone interested in filming hunts should try," he added. Mock and Hunt donated their $1100.00 first place prize to the charity.

The competition was very close with all eleven teams within striking distance of the leaders going into the final afternoon of the two day event. "We had our team in a great position to win this thing going into the final hunt," explained Reddick. "All we needed was one more filmed hunt and we would have taken first," he continued. "I'm proud that we had this chance to raise awareness for the Coalition and I want to personally thank our fighting men and women for their sacrifices."

The Challenge was organized with help from Tony Dukes, Derome West and Daniel Vargas of the Coalition and the hunt was hosted by Ken Lee and Buck Medley of Monster Masters Outfitting with all teams competing on the Harding-Schorp Ranch in Pearsall, Texas. The Campbell Outdoor Challenge airs nationally on the Men's Channel on Dish Network, various Fox Sports Networks and the Sportsman Channel.
