Sam – Hunting with Acorn Outfitters at the West Pinto Ranch in Del Rio, Texas with my favorite guide, Chuck Booth. In 2006 I encountered a stunning cinnamon fallow buck while whitetail hunting and became obsessed with the breed. October 2008 I went to Del Rio to hunt exotics. While high-racking the, 10,000 acre - low fence, ranch I spotted a white fallow buck trotting through a herd of cattle. We drove around to get downwind and while stalking I found two perfect arrow heads 8 feet apart, no fallow. That night I sat in a blind and heard his grunts and roars. On the fourth day, last morning Chuck and I slowly stalked for miles in and around a large natural spring. We found ourselves amid Whitetails, Black buck, Audad, Axis, Fallow and Sika. A mature fallow buck was roaring and grunting 50 yards away. I mimicked his roar and he answered. We repositioned to get the wind right and an hour later I roared once and within 5 minutes I heard him roll a rock in the creek bed as he aggressively closed the 75 yard distance straight to us. Chuck and I were kneeling side by side when he topped the crest and I took him with a 270 rifle at 50 feet. It should have, could have been a bow hunt! It was awesome!
